Lesson 179: Ted's baby blessing

Ted had his baby blessing this week and our family was able to visit for it.

We got Ted a wind-up Gund lamb. All my siblings and myself had a wind-up toy while growing up and I was so excited to find one at Nordstroms since wind-up toys are hard to come by.

I bought Ted an elephant romper with a matching hat :) It makes me super happy.... obviously Ted does not feel quite the same way.

Lesson 178: Being a mom takes guts

Ted had his first trip to Seattle, complete with a visit to Pike Place Market, Seattle Center, and a ride on the monorail. He slept through most of it.

After a day of walking around, Ted woke up pretty hungry. We were still a ways from our car and walking around the large Columbia clothing store downtown. My sister Miranda is visiting and she suggested I ask if it is alright to feed Ted in a dressing room. She has two kids so she is beyond being embarrassed by breastfeeding. I still cringe at the thought that people know how I feed my baby....

So Miranda took the lead and asked a male sales associate about feeding Ted. The guy looked at her like she was crazy and said he had to ask a manager. Luckily the manager he asked was a girl and she said it was alright. Hence the title of this post that it takes guts to be a mom.

Here is Ted ready to go on his outing.

Lesson 177: Babies Grunt

I have heard a phrase that common knowledge is not common. Just like with pregnancy, there are so many things about babies that nobody mentions.  Did you know that babies grunt when they sleep? Ted spends about 70% of his sleeping time grunting and moaning to the point where we can't tell if he is awake or just being noisy. Then I read an article on how to get sleep with a newborn. One suggestion was to have baby sleep in a different room because babies are loud sleepers. I had no idea. (Ted is grunting away right now as I write this). Below is a picture of Ruby relaxing.

Lesson 176: The New Wife's Guide to Puppies and Husbands... AND BABIES!

May 28 at 7:54 AM we welcomed Ted into our family. A note to all girls who have never had a C-section.... it is weird! I am sure everyone's experience is different but here was mine...

I was numbed up, they drew up the curtain between me and my lower half (during this time I was terrified from just the thought of what was going on on the other side of the curtain)., Tyler sat next to me and held my hand and we just sat there talking. Then a few minutes later (and it really felt like only a few minutes) we hear crying and tada! You are now a mom.

So here he is....

The dogs have had to do some adjusting. Ruby has been nicknamed Ted's official babysitter because she makes sure to be present at every diaper change, bath, and tummy time.

Lesson 175: Auburn Petpalooza

We went to the Auburn Petpalooza. It was raining off and on but nothing native Washingtonians could not handle. Oh and I am 38 weeks now... yeesh.
It was just Tyler, my parents, and me this year. It will be fun next year when we can take Ted too :)

Afterwards we went and got breakfast (breakfast food at 1PM). Tyler got a hot chocolate with enough whipped cream to sink a ship and no spoon.

Lesson 174: First Mother's Day.... Kind of...

37 weeks along on mother's day so I guess that counts as being a mama. Tyler got me beautiful flowers and a necklace.

Tyler installed a fan in our house too, which was just in time for the 80 degree weather!

Lesson 173: Funny things people say to a pregnant woman

1. I noticed you are with child. Do you know what kind of child you are having?

2. I didn't know you are..... (trails off before she says "pregnant" because she is worried she is mistaken. Keep in mind, I am almost full term at this point.)

3. I can't see your belly, did you have the baby yet? (I sit behind a desk at work)

4. So are you pregnant or just fat? (okay that one is just mean)

5. Aww you are so cute with your waddle. (who doesn't love penguins?)
